USS Scorpion SS-278, lost January 5th 1944. Planning an event with Yankton for 2015 and the 71st anniversary! We discussed moving the date in May
to Armed Forces Day, the 3rd week in May as the permanent week for the memorial service vs the previous years where we held services on the 2nd week.
Tabled for future discussion. Got nice thank you from City Manager expressing expanding service.
Making contact with the Midwest Regional Navy League regarding the upcoming building of the new USS South Dakota SSN-790.
Is anyone going to the 50th Anniversary of USSVI in Washington DC May 21st ? NO.
How about the USSVI National Convention in San Francisco in Sept? YES, Jerry and maybe one other.
Membership was discussed, keeping the meeting relevant with valuable informative, education and “most important fun” keeps members coming back!
Nick proclaimed “kiss” keep it simple stupid.
Election of Base officers (2 year terms) was held. All USS Scorpion SS-278 Base Officers were re-elected to another 2 year term.
Base Commander, Kent Winter; Vice Commander, Bernard Jung; Sec/Treasurer Tim Madden.
Long range plans are to meet with local Sioux Falls Veterans Memorial Park for a memorial plaque to submarine veterans. With the recent National memorial plaque
in DC, we feel it can be duplicated and used for our local memorial site along with base matching others in place.
The 50/50 drawing was not held due to lack of change less than a $20.
Per Tim, remember to bring smaller amounts of cash with you at the next meeting!
Meeting adjourned at 2:40pm.
