Committee reports:
Eagle Scout program: No additional information at this time
Kaps4Kids program: Dan will contact Avara rep to see about setting up a meeting with the kids
Yankton Memorial Planning committee: Riverboat days August 17th. Tim has our spot already confirmed and we should
have another truck for passengers as well as the submarine float, no running along side this year
It was proposed that we alternate parade and memorial every other year. We need more attention from the City
of Yankton at the memorial ceremony
Storekeeper: If interested contact Kent for all the items we need for vests, caps, pins & patches through the National site.
Old/Unfinished business:
MK-14 Torpedo: Brian had made contact with the base in NJ, the Navy has taken some of the torpedos back from that memorial.
The Navy Historical group is looking at getting us a torpedo. The torpedo would remain property of the Navy and we would be
responsible for maintenance and transportation. We have not heard back. Brian has reached out several times to the Keyport
museum in Washington State where the artifacts are kept, but no concrete leads yet on getting any torpedo
USS South Dakota SSN-790: No additional news since the commissioning in February
Parades: We have a position in Yankton, SD Riverboat Days on August 17th already
Turkey Days in Worthington, MN has not yet been confirmed
New Business:
Booths at Fairs : Clifford is attending the Aberdeen fair with DAV and offered to show some of our USSVI and
USS South Dakota memoribelia. Kent provided samples to show/sell there.
Kent made a motion that we suggest to National USSVI that we should band together on a national level to locate
the lost boats of WWII. That motion was seconded by Brian
Gerold Davy asked about the bylaws, The bylaws and constitution have been approved at the District and
National level, just waiting on a hard copy from Glen (District Commander)
Navy Exchange is now open to all veterans online and store visits.
