Base meeting was held at the DAV in Sioux Falls SD with Gwen serving her famous Louisiana cooking
for our noon meal and we thank her for doing all the extra work it takes to put on a meal for his crew!

Secretary/Treasurers reports:January meeting minutes were approved.
Tim is on vacation in AZ but reported we have Base account is $5,948.24; Torpedo account at $3,050. Tim thinks we should get a
separate savings account for the Memorial fund/Torpedo fund.
Committee reports:
Eagle Scout program: We now have the new certificate and badge and have been invited to the Eagle Scout Award program at
O’Gorman High School, SF on Saturday, April 16th at 1pm.
Kaps4Kids program: Al wants to get a bowling tournament going as a fundraiser during the spring months of Apr/May or August.
If you are interested, please contact Al.
Yankton Memorial Planning committee: Jim Black & Tim Madden are checking the City of Yankton for specifics on finishing the memorial.
Jim has meeting with Capt Deb whose prior Navy contacts at Ordinances across the USA might be able to find us a real torpedo!

Old/Unfinished business:
Jim and Tim took care of arrangements in Yankton for Saturday, May 19th with the Yankton VFW serving a BBQ Rib dinner for noon meal.
Cost is $8.50 each pay at the door, special deal on beer for $1 for any one that sings up for the meal by May 18th
(email Tim directly). They have the Yankton VFW Honor Guard, bleachers, power and audio for speaker Capt Deb, floral wreath ordered.

Concerns that we should be at the front of the parades with the rest of the military entries for the
Yankton Riverboat Days parade (Aug 2016) and Worthington’s Turkey Day parade (Sept 2016)
was heard and we will address that when we sign up for entry. Think we all agree to be in with the Vets!
Jerry is emailing and calling Base members on updating their contact information. Don’t be surprised if you get a call or email
and please help us keep up to date on your current situation and health.
New Business:
MK-14 Torpedo
We have $3,050 in Torpedo account ready for expenses when we find a real MK-14 torpedo. At this time we will continue to solicit funds
for the Torpedo account. Jim Black is heading the sub veterans push to find a real torpedo.
USS South Dakota SSN-790
Keel Laying ceremony is April 4th in RI. Capt Deb is attending and will report on the events.
The “Home Port for a Day” events in County seats, fairs and many other ongoing local events across SD does not yet, have a firm schedule,
so will await more information.
Entries for the Submarine Crest is a priority! They will have 4 categories….Elementary, High School, Individual and Professional.
Timeline for the contest is through the month of February with selection in March 2016. Put your ideas to pen!
The official Navy vehicle will host a 6ft model of the sub that will be put on the back of a brand new pickup truck wrapped with
Navy submarine images pulling a trailer which will feature the brand new submarine themed motorcycle being built by
Klock Werks in Mitchell.
Sioux Falls Air Show will host the big event July 23 & 24 which will be the last days of the officially announced Navy Week in Sioux Falls.
That will run Monday, July 18th through Sunday, July 24th. Tim wants to show the flag at the different Veterans Day events across SD on Sept 3rd.
Tim will register Base for Riverboat Days parade; Dan A. will do the same for Turkey Days in MN.
Capt Deb has confirmed to be our Speaker at May’s memorial which starts at 12 noon. Sioux Falls people who want a ride,
need to confirm with Kent on your desires to attend the memorial event.
Plan to meet at the Sioux Falls VFW parking lot by Arby’s to van pool down to Yankton at 10am.
Please RSVP Kent if you plan to go either in van pool or by yourself…hence we know numbers!!
National Convention in Reno which Jerry Davey indicated he would attend along with USS Halibut Reunion at same site.
Somebody yelled out that the Navy truck pulling the motorcycle float should be retrofitted with a diving alarm. Good idea!
We are requesting a calendar of events for the “Home Port for a Day” events across SD and will get that out asap as we get it.
Purchased raffle ticket for $100 with prize of car which would be auctioned off to help Base pay expenses on memorials..
Base members approved and purchased ticket.
Rick Campbell offering a sub book again….anyone interested in a good sub book?
2 gentlemen showed up last week, Ray Decker from Vermillion and Someone from Redfield. Does anyone know anything about the gentleman from Redfield?

Next meeting is Saturday, May 19th, 2016 at the USS Scorpion SS-278 Memorial in Yankton at 12 noon.
Van pool will leave SF VFW parking lot at 10am for Yankton, should be back by 3-3:30pm in SF.
The 50/50 drawing was held and Lawrence DeJong had his named pulled (by Jane) for $33, he donated $28 back to Base and we put
$61 in the bank account.
