USS Scorpion SS-278 Base
March 21st, 2020 Base meeting minutes

Members attending:
Dan Anderson, Brian Schnurr, Nate Kull, Kent Winter, Ray Decker, Vance Johanning
meeting was held through a zoom teleconference

Invocation given by Dan Anderson
Tolling of the Bell for submarine losses waived for this meeting.

Secretary/Treasurers reports:
Base account at $6474.29 pending details from the treasurers email will be updated once received

Committee reports:

Eagle Scouts: No meetings are pending at this time

Kaps4Kids program: Roger,Zarn, Jim Farquar, Dan Anderson presented a certificate to Kris Doeden as honorary submariner
at Worthington Prairie Elementary. Spoke with 7th graders there as well

Yankton Memorial Planning committee: plan is to have the meeting but may be postponed in light of the Corona virus,
Ray said 2-3 weeks we should know so April meeting we will determine status of the meeting.

Storekeeper: No new purchases at this time, still have 4 calendars for 2020

Old/Unfinished business:

End of year report completed for Scorpion Base by February 2020
District Commander reported that the Robalo base in Farge will be dissolved (in progress)
read previous months meeting minutes.

New Business:

Plaque dedicated to 52 subs lost in WWII to be added to Yankton memorial. Recommended that we vote on the idea at the next
meeting with a larger turnout. Kent suggested that we get several plaques to offset the cost of each and network to get local
participation and funding to create the plaque(s)

Dan is sending a card and best wishes to both Larry Little and Al Small, members that are having health issues at this time

Kent suggested that we contact Bryan Brummet who was a USS South Dakota commissioning committee member and a former submariner

April 18th@ 1300 (3rd Saturday) will be the next meeting for virtual conference
We will try to get more people to call in or connect via computer or smartphone to attend. The meeting was a success and
all people present agreed that it is a good alternative for those that can not make it to the meeting because of age, weather, etc..
A copy of the recording will be posted to the website and facebook page as soon as it is available to post
