grandson who is undergoing cancer treatment at Sanford! Check out the website for pictures!
Yankton Memorial Planning committee: Asking the Mayor of Yankton to be our featured speaker at the
2017 USS Scorpion 278 Memorial service next May. Would like to get the City of Yankton more involved in our memorial service.
Storekeeper: Jerry has all the items we need for vests, caps, pins & patches through the Nation site. Contact Jerry if you
need anything!
Old/Unfinished business:
Jerry is emailing and calling Base members on updating their contact information. Don't be surprised if you get a call or email
and please help us keep up-to-date on your current situation and health.
Jerry ordered 20 calendars for 2017 and sold them all!
Donations to the USS South Dakota Commissioning Committee for $500 are appreciated and have been designated to the Senior
Chief Petty Officer donation level. I have been receiving checks and we plan to have enough donated to eliminate Base funding.
Thanks to all that contributed!
MK-14 Torpedo: No new info on finding our torpedo yet. Find out how to get with State of SD to officially get memorial marked as
State Historical.
USS South Dakota SSN-790: Next event is Christening in 2017 and Commissioning in 2018. Look at stuffed buffalo or teddy bear as
souvenir for visiting crew members and new families reporting aboard ship.
New Business:
Dan, under his wife Jessica guidance, arranged for Kent to be the speaker at a Veterans Day event in Ellsworth MN on Nov 11th.
Jerry, Jim and Capt Mike accompanied me over to their High School where about 100 students from K-12 were seated and about 50 from
the nursing home. Dan gave a talk about Veterans Day history and Kent talked about the USS Minnesota SSN 783 because I didnt think
anyone knew they have a boat named after the State. Encouraged them to get on Facebook and communicate with the crew, maybe even
adopt one or two! Had a great time and thanks to all that contributed!
Ideas regarding getting the Base more publicity were thrown around, discussed assisting the DAV more with their projects, visiting
vets at the SF Vets Hospital and delivering meals to homebound veterans. There are several projects out there that we could assist,
Meals on Wheels or other volunteer work.
Dan purchased a trailer for $100 for the submarine float and requested Base fund half. Motion made and passed for $50.
Discussed getting USA flags along with flag holders welded to the trailer. Tim was also interested in flags for the truck pulling the
float.
Because it's a good cause, I'll give Ray another plug! Ray asked if you or anyone you know would be interested in volunteering for the
Red Cross? They are in need, if anyone can help, please do!
Next meeting is Saturday, January 14th, 2017 at the SF DAV at 12 noon.
The 50/50 drawing was held and Jerry Davey had his named pulled.
First prize gift of submarine was won by Al and Second prize gift of picture was won by Francis.
Meeting adjourned at 2:15pm.
