Base meeting was held at the Sioux Falls DAV starting at 12 noon with two soups, chili and chicken noodle
served by the famous Chef, Al Small.
Prior to the meeting at 1245, the Christening Ceremony of the USS South Dakota SSN 790 was shown to all attendees.
Thanks Brian for putting that on!
Members attending:Kent Winter, Gerold Davey, Bernard Jung, Nathan Kull, Francis Rabaey, Brian Schnurr, Lawrence DeJong,
Jeff Alvey and Al Small.
And as a nice gesture, our own Mike Neuroth aka Capt Neutron is in the Dell Rapids Nursing Home.
If you can, and we can, please don't forget him in your thoughts and prayers and visit him if you can!

The meeting started at 1345 with the reading of the creed and pledge of allegiance. Invocation was given by Francis and members
were introduced. Joe Olson was introduced to the members, he was a classmate of Kent's and served in subs from 1975-1995 on the
USS Will Rogers, USS Baltimore and USS Olympia. He lives in Balaton MN and we invited him to come back and think about joining.
BJ did Tolling of the Bell for October/November submarine losses. Kent dove the boat with the diving alarm.

Base asked Jeff Alvey, USSVI member and USS South Dakota SSN 790 Commissioning Committee member to update the members on the
current status of the boat. Jeff started with the Christening ceremony and what did and didn't work. The Commissioning Committee
is holding it's next meeting Dec 8th and much should be reveled after that meeting which will be planning for the Commissioning in
2018.

Boat reactor is hot but all is not going well, hence many delays but they expect the boat to be wet by January 1, 2018. This year
have Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Buffalo Roundup and the Governor's Hunt, where 4 sub sailors from the USS South Dakota went to
hunt this fall. They visited Mitchell where they met with the Corn Palace reps and announced the Corn Palace next years design
will be the USS South Dakota. Raffle tickets for the customized 12 gauge shotgun with submarine decor and signed by the Governor,
Commanding Officer and COB are still for sale!

Jeff reported that the Committee is looking to put together a powerpoint presentation on the USS South Dakota SSN 790 for all to
access. Commissioning is being planned for Oct to Dec 2018 with no definite date set yet. A show of hands indicated about
5-6 members were planning on attending ceremony next year. A USS South Dakota cook book is being put together so for anyone having
that "special dish" with South Dakota flare, bring it forward! And the Committee is looking at the "Port for a Day" tour across
South Dakota and trying to make that happen. The Base thanks Jeff for updating the members!

Secretary/Treasurers reports: The Base welcomes Nathan Kull as our new Base Treasurer.
Nate has been going over the books and doing a review of the Base account sitting at $5,871.75 with SSN 790 donation at $250

and Torpedo account at $3,050 leaving $3,571.75 for the general fund.
Nathan reminds everyone to pay their upcoming 2018 National ($20) and Local ($10) dues early!

Committee reports:

Eagle Scout program: No report but Dan is working with Sioux Council for next year program.
Kaps4Kids program: Al and Kent will make contact with Avera and Sanford to continue K4K program.

An Admiral from Omaha NE who has indicated interest in our USS Scorpion SS 278 Memorial Service. Since we have Larry Zimmerman
already committed, I suggest we put the Admiral on hold until 2019.

items we need for vests, caps, pins & patches through the National site.
