Committee reports:
Kaps 4 Kids: Several members (Dan, Brian, Kent, Jim and Lawrence) went to the McCrossen Boys ranch on Veterans Day.
Dan led a video presentation on current classes of submarines followed by a Q&A from the attendees. We stayed for
Lunch and visiting. Several caps were handed out to the boys as well as an Honorary Submariner certificate
presented to the boys ranch after the meal.
Eagle Scouts: No new information for the Boy Scouts at this time
Torpedo: It was recommended that we contact Capt Deb again about her connections to locate a WWII torpedo
Storekeeper: Kent mentioned that he has 2020 calendars for sale, most were sold. Contact Kent if you would like one.
Also in the absence of the Secretary, Kent was collecting dues from the members at this meeting
Old/Unfinished business:
Brian Schnurr suggested last meeting that we hold a base meeting in Watertown so the Northern members did not have to drive as far
and we could use it for recuritment as well in the area. Kent Winter made a motion and it was seconded by Vance
Johanning, that the July meeting in 2020 be held in Watertown SD at the VFW. Jerry Davey offered to get with the VFW
for scheduling.
We discussed the oil painting of the USS South Dakotas by Mickey Harris. Brian got a price for Museum glass at Michaels
and all agreed that we should proceed with the glass for protection. The cost was just under $50.
Jim Farquar mentioned a veteran that does that service as well so he will get another quote prior to getting the
glass installed. The painting will be donated to the DAV once completed.
Dan Anderson has accepted the position of Districe 3 Commander and as such was given the information to contact
the National Organization about a National Advertising campaign for recruitment that was suggested by Kent Winter
at the previous meeting. He is also tasked with asking about the involvement of both local and National USSVI
bases in the search for lost WWII submarines. Brian Schnurr had sent an email to National last month and was
advised that it needed to follow the chain of command for the request. The District 3 commander is the next in
line for our base. Thanks Dan!
New Business:
It was suggested by Tim Madden at the last meeting, that we alternate between Parades and Ceremonies in Yankton.
This meeting Kent Winter made a motion and Roger Zarn seconded the motion that on Even years (2020), we hold a
ceremony at the memorial for the public with a guest speaker and odd years we hold a ceremony with the subvets
and note that the public is invited but no guest speaker, no honor guard, etc. The Riverboat Days parade will be
attended on odd years (2021 is the next year we will attend) All in attendance agreed.
Local and National membership dues are due before January. If you have not paid, please get your payment to Nathan Kull
so that you are current Several of the members paid Kent Winter at this meeting and he noted the payment since Nate was
not present. Brian has the funds at this time with the general funds
It was suggested and agreed by all present that we need to have a better presence for the Secreatary/Treasurer position
at the meetings. Dan Anderson and Brian Schnurr will hold a meeting in December with Nathan Kull and discuss options.
The 50/50 drawing was held, Vance Johanning won the drawing and donated back to the base for a total of $45 added to the
general fund.
Benediction was given by Dan Anderson
Dan Anderson surfaced the boat and the meeting was adjourned at 1350
