Secretary/Treasurers reports:
Last meeting minutes from July were sent out to members for comment/concerns. No comments back, minutes approved.
Brian Schnurr reported current account balance at $3764.14 with multiple small expenses mostly from Storekeeper.
Committee reports:
Eagle Scout program: Keep looking for Eagle Scout ceremony's in your local areas to leads from Boy Scouts and work with the Sioux Council and any group within.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have formed a new organization and is now called "Scouting America". Maybe our USSVI patch should reflect the change.
Kaps4Kids program: Dan Anderson is working with both Avera and Sanford Hospitals to allow our Kaps 4 Kids program to visit with kids in their hospitals.
He has opened the doors again to start up this program with each of them. If you are interested in participating, just let Kent know!!
Event Director:
Storekeeper: If you would like a vest or other items from the Storekeeper, now is the time!
Contact our new Storekeeper, Dan Anderson who will bring many of the items from the store to the Base meetings to showcase. We have many of the items you’re looking for!
Need a new vest? Contact Dan Anderson
Old/Unfinished business:
We talked about expansion at the Battleship Memorial including updates to the building and how SD submarine sailors can be involved. Capt Diane is now the Head of the Navy
League here and is asking for our support/joining to the Navy League. After much discussion on both the SF Alliance and/or the Battleship Memorial the consensus was to
pursue the SF Alliance as they would have more open days and more traffic that could see our submarine exhibit.
With that decided, will contact Brian Phelps at SF Alliance and pursue the display case he talked about to us previously. Will invite him to attend the November 15th meeting
to see what we have put together.
Which goes to say...We are still collecting your Navy memorabilia for the submarine exhibit, so look through your "stuff" and see what you would like to donate to the
submarine display!
Dan Anderson talked about the Riverboat Day parade in Yankton in Aug and Turkey Days parade in Worthington this Sept. Both were a success and thanks to the members who showed
up and rode with Dan in the parade! Dan also went to Fairmont MN and Hills MN to show our colors! Thanks Dan!!
New Business:
One or two or three guys cannot do everything.
We need everyone's support to make this Base prosperous!
What would you feel comfortable doing for the Base as some positions still need to be filled.
Dan Anderson has assumed the duties of Storekeeper and will be dropping the Kaps4Kids and Eagle Scout programs so that is a Base Special Events position that is open. We also
talked about other programs that need help in the "local" area. Many ideas and thoughts were presented and many have merit to us to look into. Thanks to all that show up
month after month. It's you that keep this Base running!!
And the Base has an opening for a COB. What does a COB do? Many have wondered...but for this position, its participation in the Executive Board and Base conduct during
meetings. Stopping any fights! Haha If you would like the opportunity, call Kent.
Ray Decker informed members that their VA cards were expiring and NEW ones were required.
Dan Anderson is funding a Gofundme for his son who has cancer. Find the link and help!
The 50/50 drawing was held and Ron Bowen won the drawing of $100, split $50 and Joyce took it!!
Kent gave a benediction to close out the meeting.
Meeting Adjourned at 1420. Surface the Boat!
Next meeting is Saturday, November 15th at the SF DAV Lunch at 1200 meeting at 1300.
Call Kent with questions or concerns.
p.s. Shortly there will be contact made with several of you that according to our records have not paid for 2025 National and/or Local dues from past
January. We need to clean up our records.
National Dues are now $40 and Local Dues are $10. Nat'l Dues went up this past year to $40 now.
